The New Quintics

The New Quintics is the college mathematical society for Christ's, Corpus Christi, Darwin, Downing, Emmanuel, Girton, Gonville and Caius, Hughes Hall, Homerton, Jesus, Newnham, Pembroke, Peterhouse, Queens', St Catharine's, Selwyn, Sidney Sussex, Trinity Hall, Wolfson, and Anglia Polytechnic University. We hold talks on a variety of mathematical topics in DAMTP on Wednesday evenings during Full Term; previous topics include ``Where Do Distributions Come From?'' and ``Goethe-Einstein-Mozart, Or What Has Music Got To Do With Quantum Mechanics?''.

The society has fallen apart recently, and enthusiastic people are urgently needed to revive it. First years would be especially welcome. The committee posts and their associated duties are:

President

Runs the society and introduces speakers at speaker meetings.

Vice-President

Organises social events and catering and assists the President.

Secretary

Conducts all the society's correspondence.

Treasurer

Manages the society's finances.

Publicity Officer

Creates posters and advertises the society's events.

For more information about the New Quintics or if you are interested in becoming a committee member, please talk to a member of the Archimedeans committee.
