For the last time, corners of walls are -, not |!

(Also, it's "Hello, Whoever, welcome to NetHack!", not "Welcome, Whoever.")

Despite these trivial problems, E.

#2 DarthCliche Thu, 22 Jul 2010 00:09:13
Oh, also, doorways are ., not #.

Hmmm. Changing my vote to G because this wasn't quite E, and now it's showing up as the best-rated strip.

DA DA DA DAAA!!

#4 solidsnail Thu, 22 Jul 2010 10:24:46
I never played, but I think this is a reference to Zelda. Is that it? Just a reference?

#5 Kiwi13cubed Thu, 22 Jul 2010 11:40:43
I think it was also mocking how useless starting with just a wooden sword would be...

#6 Sorceror Thu, 22 Jul 2010 22:14:30
solidsnail: bingo. Original Legend of Zelda game.

As for the graphical disputes ... maybe this is the 8bit version of Legend of NetHack? I mean, have you SEEN a Spectrum?

#7 Anonymous Fri, 23 Jul 2010 09:55:45
Also, the first screen of TLoZ is not a perfect room, there are indents in the upper corners, so it's not even that good of a reference.

Sorceror: You mean ZX Spectrum? Because I actually have one of those. You say there's a version of NetHack for it?

#8 Slandor Fri, 23 Jul 2010 17:49:42
An elven broadsword can be a'ight. (Actually I don't think I've ever used one, because no class starts with skill in it, and the classes that can get skill in it almost always have something better to train.)

#9 DarthCliche Fri, 23 Jul 2010 18:56:38
There was a joke on the old site about a "cheap plastic imitation of the Triforce".

#10 Kiwi13cubed Sat, 24 Jul 2010 04:22:56
Slandor - named Orcrist? (why bother, though...)
I was thinking dagger, though... but still my point was that is all he seemingly has; no armor, no food, nothing else...

#11 Anonymous Sun, 25 Jul 2010 13:48:55
lol

@ DarthCliche

It's much more useful than you would first expect!

Well done, Quint-san

#17 Anonymous Wed, 28 Jul 2010 13:23:33
Quint:
R.I.P. The Kid
He jumped right into a sword
He was a retard

(I know it's not exactly what it says in the game, but I had to make it fit somehow.)

#18 Sorceror Thu, 29 Jul 2010 21:40:40
Needs a P for symmetry!

#19 canidae Fri, 30 Jul 2010 05:52:03
@18: Done!

#20 Sorceror Fri, 30 Jul 2010 09:17:52
Someone screwed it up though.

#21 Quint Sat, 31 Jul 2010 00:09:12
I fixed it with a G vote.

#22 CuleX Sat, 31 Jul 2010 05:38:15
Did Symmetry to 34543

#23 Sorceror Sat, 31 Jul 2010 14:27:28
Who keeps messing up the symmetry?

#24 Lanay Sat, 31 Jul 2010 19:25:52
Now it's symmetric!

#25 Anonymous Sun, 1 Aug 2010 08:29:07
Now it's not.

#26 Anonymous Sun, 1 Aug 2010 12:52:32
Let's face it, this strip abhors a symmetry.

#27 Lanay Sun, 1 Aug 2010 16:44:37
nah, who said it isn't? :P

#28 Sorceror Sun, 1 Aug 2010 22:43:24
Whoever keeps stuffing up the symmetry has forgotten the golden rule of Dudley's Dungeon votes:
"Symmetry is always better than honesty."

#29 canidae Mon, 2 Aug 2010 08:14:52
damnit, now i had to recast my vote to "good" to keep the symmetry, but the comic really wasn't "good" :\\

#30 mijae Mon, 2 Aug 2010 11:11:01
Well your attempt was good, but apparently, not good enough...

#31 xCheckPoint Mon, 2 Aug 2010 11:38:17
Hehe, recasted...

#32 Lanay Mon, 2 Aug 2010 13:53:13
Oooh yeah. :P

#33 Kiwi13cubed Mon, 2 Aug 2010 20:50:59
Ha! I have destroyed the symmetry! Take that, puny mortals!
...oh yeah, I'm a puny mortal too...

#34 DarthCliche Tue, 3 Aug 2010 03:39:08
STILL no new comic? After 13 days? Wow.

#35 Anonymous Tue, 3 Aug 2010 06:31:28
For what do you wish? Some new comics daily
Such an item does not exist in the dungeon.

On side note, my question was: What symbol represents a kitten?

#36 Sorceror Tue, 3 Aug 2010 08:16:10
#35: That's something easily found out by starting with one.

♫ f is for kitten, that's good enough for me! ♫

#37 mijae Tue, 3 Aug 2010 22:43:08
I've made a submission, but it's still not scheduled yet. (I guess paxed isn't as riveted by the voting symmetry drama)

#38 Quint Tue, 3 Aug 2010 23:24:35
Someone just removed an E vote and messed up 46564 symmetry.

Edit: ...and now it's fixed.

I just lol'd at the symmetry wars.

#40 Sorceror Wed, 4 Aug 2010 21:17:37
#39: SYMMETRY IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!

#41 Anonymous Wed, 4 Aug 2010 21:27:41
Sooo
Wats the holdup?

#42 Anonymous Thu, 5 Aug 2010 03:04:15
HA!

edit: Somebody pls add new strip... Before this symmetry insanity becomes bigger. OTZ

#43 mijae Thu, 5 Aug 2010 11:27:15
Huh, looks like someone else has already added a few strips before me too, since mine's 564 and this one's only 561.

#44 xCheckPoint Thu, 5 Aug 2010 11:55:25
Yeah, I got 569. Does the counter reset if you delete a strip that's not scheduled?

#45 mijae Thu, 5 Aug 2010 12:03:10
No idea. But 569, huh? Sounds like we'll at least have a nice buffer for a while, by the time we get an update.

#46 Anonymous Thu, 5 Aug 2010 18:55:04
Symmetry in equality!

#47 Sorceror Fri, 6 Aug 2010 05:08:35
OK, someone is definitely screwing up the symmetry on purpose. UNCOOL!

#48 canidae Fri, 6 Aug 2010 06:08:55
Oi, make it symmetrical again!
Fine, then I'll vote "poor" >:[

#49 Kiwi13cubed Fri, 6 Aug 2010 20:54:43
@Sorceror - Yeah, I am. Got a problem with that?
...oh. you do. I see.
Well... it wasn't me that time.

#50 DarthCliche Fri, 6 Aug 2010 22:01:26
I have 570.

#51 Lanay Sat, 7 Aug 2010 02:32:10
seems Kiwi13cubed doesn't have life, except for messing vote symmetry everyday.

#52 Kiwi13cubed Sat, 7 Aug 2010 04:27:23
or rather that I keep coming here in hopes of finding a new comic, and failing that I attack the symmetry.

#53 mijae Sat, 7 Aug 2010 05:04:40
I hope paxed puts my comic first in the queue when he gets back - it's got a reference to symmetry-voting, and since I submitted it it's only become more and more topical.

#54 xCheckPoint Sat, 7 Aug 2010 06:21:18
@mijae: I hope mine comes first, because of course I reference to it, too.
I hope we didn't have the same idea. On the other hand it's still not scheduled, so maybe I can delete it if you stole my idea (in advance).

#55 mijae Sat, 7 Aug 2010 23:03:46
Eh, I wouldn't worry about it - after waiting this long for just one new strip, getting even multiple similar strips all in a row should feel like a blur anyway.

#56 Sorceror Sat, 7 Aug 2010 23:10:39
I hope paxed puts my comic first in the queue because I don't have one.

#57 Quint Sun, 8 Aug 2010 03:18:37
Uncasting my vote to create symmetry.

#58 Anonymous Sun, 8 Aug 2010 04:13:16
this is madness.

#59 Anonymous Sun, 8 Aug 2010 05:00:40
Well at this point the symmetry's thoroughly broken, so we can all just move on from it, right? [/tempt]

#60 Anonymous Sun, 8 Aug 2010 10:47:46
It's really useless to fix the symmetry, because some lifeless ppl just mess with it.

#61 ctaboir Sun, 8 Aug 2010 11:17:44
I think that lifeless people can be easily identified, as they are either:
1) trying to mess the symmetry
2) trying to fix symmetry
3) commenting about symmetry
err...
I should probably go back to life myself.

#62 Anonymous Sun, 8 Aug 2010 12:41:22
DUDLEEEY! GIVE ME BACK MY LIFEEEEE!!!

#63 Sorceror Sun, 8 Aug 2010 14:04:41
Anonymous people should NOT be allowed to break the symmetry!

#64 Anonymous Sun, 8 Aug 2010 18:06:29
They can't.

#65 Sorceror Sun, 8 Aug 2010 21:26:27
Anonymous people should NOT be allowed to comment on breaking the symmetry!

#66 Quint Mon, 9 Aug 2010 10:42:04
Symmetry fixed. Again.

#67 Kiwi13cubed Mon, 9 Aug 2010 14:30:48
Symmetry broken. Again.

#68 nooodl Mon, 16 Aug 2010 00:45:14
Fixed to 9-8-5-8-9, woohoo!

#69 octagon Tue, 17 Aug 2010 18:15:20

#71 Anonymous Sun, 2 Jan 2011 03:44:04
12-9-6-9-12!

#72 CoolgyFurlough Wed, 18 May 2011 21:41:41
I FIXED THE SYMMETRY! :D

#73 Anonymous Sun, 21 Aug 2011 07:12:35
hey, did you know that the rating system is actually based on the comics, not symmetry? It's shocking, I know.

#74 Anonymous Mon, 12 Sep 2011 21:28:06
No way.

#75 gatefold313 Tue, 1 May 2012 04:29:25
we're anti-symetric, we hate it.
we've made up our minds.
we won't even debate it.
1 3 or 5, but not 2 or 4.
so do it. do it. don't talk anymore.

#76 sparrow4 Tue, 21 May 2013 04:08:06
Aren't Elven swords wooden anyway? Or isn't just the daggers?

#77 Prefectfordprefect Tue, 10 Sep 2013 04:14:13
No, they are metallic.

#78 ThePathfinder Wed, 12 Nov 2014 11:32:03
In Chinese RPGs characters usually start with (not powerful) wooden swords as "default weapon".

Rated P for symmetry.

Now, nobody vote!!!

#80 Prefectfordprefect Tue, 17 Feb 2015 18:49:08
... I could retract my vote... then what would happen?

Aw, to heck with it. Recast, suckahs!

#81 Sarillianar Thu, 16 Jul 2015 18:07:19
Fixing the divine symmetry with a P. Somebody help me here!

#82 ThePathfinder Thu, 15 Oct 2015 15:30:08

#84 grisha5 Thu, 22 Oct 2015 11:13:49
And nobody fixes it! Huzzah!

#85 riggityrekt Thu, 11 Nov 2021 15:24:01
what symmetry?

#86 XBRSQ Sun, 13 Mar 2022 02:00:12
I had to vote M, because now it is symmetrical.
