So I suppose underlined-@ player character just outside the dungeon entrance in the 3rd panel is not the same as the one who's just landed in Juiblex's backup lair in Moloch's Basement, but is instead hearing those screams all the way from the 10th circle of Gehennom?

That's the intent, yes. That would be another player character about to enter the dungeon, and presumably having second thoughts all of a sudden.
