This might have worked better if there was more "joke" to this, if you see what I mean. It's got potential to be a funny role reversal, but it's been a long time since newt jokes have been anything other than annoying, so this needed a bit more setup.

Indeed. In fact, it's Dudley, right? He probably doesn't know about BUC testing anyway, so the scroll should have been cursed and the 6 or so newts surrounding him should have killed him.

Maybe he read the Nethackwiki page for the scroll: "If you must read it without knowing the BUC status, choose a low-level monster to genocide - that way, if it turns out to be cursed, you will only be surrounded by, say, newts."
