Suggest patches for NAO
paxed - November 10, 2009 05:03AM

What patches would you like to see on NAO?

* No gameplay changes; sorry, I'm trying to keep NAO as vanilla as possible.
* Simpler patches have higher chances of actually getting in.

Take a look at the Patch Database if you don't know what patches to suggest.

I'd like the "while helpless" patch. It makes death messages more informative and usually less embarassing.

There are some things in ascensions zorkmids can't buy.
For everything else, there's Platinum Yendorian Express Card.

These patches claim to fix bugs that cause crashes:
http://bilious.homelinux.org/?340
http://bilious.homelinux.org/?341
http://bilious.homelinux.org/?342
http://bilious.homelinux.org/?332

This patch reassigns the X command to #twoweapon instead of explore mode. Since explore mode is disabled on NAO anyway, I'd like to use that key for something useful. (Note however that the patch also removes lock/unlock confirmation, which I'm not sure if I want.)

This patch changes the tty code to recognize meta commands that begin with ESC, which is the common convention nowadays.

I suggest this one: http://bilious.homelinux.org/?121

A few new and random messages would be nice.

IIRC, NAO already has 60 new hallu monsters, 22 new random engravings, 363 epitaphs and 59 t-shirts.

http://bilious.homelinux.org/?287 - Quiver Fired Ammunition
http://bilious.homelinux.org/?98 - Pickup Thrown

the second one adds *some* changes in gameplay, but nothing you couldn't do with autopickup exceptions - it would only be more annoying to do

Pilesize option v2 http://bilious.homelinux.org/?182

Allows setting the number of items that triggers the "things that are here" -list

Did you solve the gameplay changing effects? =)

No, but for UnNetHack, I don't care. :-D

IMO the UI improvement far outweighs the 1 or 2 annoying deaths it does prevent.

I also really like that patch. :]
I think the gameplay issue is solved easiest by simply falling back to the vanilla behaviour when blind, nobody will care about that.
