I believe there's a 50% chance it crashes in your situation when you go down the stairs. I've recovered it, so you can keep trying

I haven't played S'EM myself, apart from few quickly ended games, so I don't really know about it's bugginess. If it's buggy enough to require constant babysitting, that certainly counts against it...
