Not quite. It's still a magical item AFAIK and thus could be used for polypiling. But I'm not sure as usual.

#2 xCheckPoint Fri, 1 Oct 2010 08:21:52
At least a stick might be a useful weapon against monsters with one (or more) eyes.

#3 Anonymous Fri, 1 Oct 2010 10:33:01
I got a wand of nothing between my legs

#4 xCheckPoint Fri, 1 Oct 2010 12:28:47
#3: contact your local surgeon for polypiling

#5 LayneRobinson Fri, 1 Oct 2010 12:52:46
@Anonymous: That's what she said......or something like that.

Actually, a wand of nothing, could be good if it turned whatever it was pointed at into nothing. It might be the only weapon against newts.

#6 Anonymous Fri, 1 Oct 2010 22:55:28
You zap the wand of nothing.
You die...
Do you want your possessions identified? [ynq]

#7 scorchgeek Sat, 2 Oct 2010 14:20:45
@CuleX: Actually, a wand of nothing is not considered a magical item. However, it has a very good chance of becoming one since it's the only non-magical item in its class.

#8 Anonymous Sun, 3 Oct 2010 06:10:36
Why does it have charges?

#9 Anonymous Sun, 3 Oct 2010 10:30:31
It appeared as a long wand before I identified it. Useless however. #3

#10 Quint Sun, 3 Oct 2010 19:09:41
So is a wand of nothing (1:-1) the most useless thing ever?

Also, inspired by this strip, I wrote a new strip, which is set to be posted tomorrow on the other site ( http://sadowl.com/dudley/index.php ).

#11 Sorceror Mon, 4 Oct 2010 00:24:46
If it's a wand of nothing, it is no doubt similar to the wand of cancellation.

If it's a stick, it's a combination of magic whistle and taming device for dogs only.

#12 Slandor Mon, 4 Oct 2010 03:14:22
That's a great YANI, actually; a stick object that deals no damage when thrown, but tame dogs will immediately run to that spot (stopping to eat or fight). Throwing it into a corridor full of monsters could be quite useful.

(Anon #8: The charges determine whether you get the "nothing happens" message or are asked for a direction. Also, presumably, how many charges it has left if you polymorph it.)

I'm trying to make my first strip, but I need some help. How do I make a highlighted letter (to make a pet more obvious)? I can't seem to find it on the DIY help.

#14 Anonymous Tue, 5 Oct 2010 17:49:18
Try pressing 'm' while hovering over the character to set the cursor (which is usually for Dudley), unless you want something different? I'm guessing this is what you mean by "highlighted letter".

#15 solidsnail Tue, 5 Oct 2010 19:47:47
@ #14 No, that is not what I mean. By highlighted I mean foreground and background colors exchanged; in other words, how you see your pets when you toggle the nethack option 'hilite_pet'

#16 Quint Wed, 6 Oct 2010 02:07:40
FYI my comic has been posted at the other site.

#17 Sorceror Wed, 6 Oct 2010 12:23:41
You can do hilite_pet in comics? :O

#18 solidsnail Wed, 6 Oct 2010 15:23:19
@ Sorceror I take that as negative. Too bad. I think it would make easier to understand at a first glance that a non d/f/u is a pet.

#19 Anonymous Wed, 6 Oct 2010 16:10:39
Dudley's pet is Dogley...

#20 Sorceror Sat, 9 Oct 2010 04:25:22
... or Catley, or Horsely ...

#21 Anonymous Sat, 9 Oct 2010 15:33:41
Cudley...

#22 ajbRad Sun, 10 Oct 2010 21:15:11
I submitted a comic on august 4th... it's still not scheduled.

#23 Quint Mon, 11 Oct 2010 19:25:45
You should submit more stuff to the other site ( http://sadowl.com/dudley/index.php ). The guy who runs that is quite timely in processing submissions.

#24 Anonymous Tue, 12 Oct 2010 04:48:17
I thought Dogley's pet is Dudley.

#25 Anonymous Tue, 12 Oct 2010 15:54:28
@#23:
What, and cause a no-comics-drought?

#26 Quint Wed, 13 Oct 2010 05:30:13
Well, there's a drought either way.

#27 Anonymous Sun, 17 Oct 2010 11:02:31
And you generally post to the other site.

#28 Anonymous Sun, 17 Oct 2010 11:02:32
And you generally post to the other site.

#29 Quint Mon, 18 Oct 2010 00:22:41
Well, this site gets more comics on average, and the other site is slightly easier to write stuff for (since I prefer not having to worry about colors), so I prefer to write for that one.

#30 Sorceror Mon, 18 Oct 2010 06:30:49
I keep having to fix the vote symmetry!

#31 Quint Tue, 19 Oct 2010 07:19:38
Me too. Fixed.

#32 Quint Tue, 19 Oct 2010 20:24:21
Fixed again!

#33 Sorceror Thu, 21 Oct 2010 02:00:04
Fixed!

#34 xCheckPoint Thu, 21 Oct 2010 08:49:23
Not really...

#35 solidsnail Fri, 22 Oct 2010 09:50:11
@symmetry-voters: When there is a no-comics-drought I can see that the only fun we can have is to play around with the ratings: how about you take the next step and ensure comic-votes symmetry while keeping your personal voting history symmetric?

#36 xCheckPoint Fri, 22 Oct 2010 13:03:42
I'd have to vote the next 50 comics poor/mediocre to remotely reach a personal voting symmetry. I don't think I'll do that.

#37 DarthGeek Sat, 23 Oct 2010 13:53:22
I just submitted a comic

#38 solidsnail Mon, 25 Oct 2010 10:51:40
I submitted one comic at October the 7th and it still isn't scheduled. I noticed more comics have been submitted, but not posted yet. Is paxed just busy, or maybe decided to make this a monthly comic to at least keep it regular?

#39 Dav Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:20:39
I'm still posting comics over at Dudley's Dungeon Classic, I just haven't gotten any submissions.

#40 Quint Mon, 25 Oct 2010 23:57:39
Thanks for publishing mine, Dav, and for keeping up with things.

I mentioned in an earlier comment that my experience tells me that you respond rather promptly to comic submissions.

#41 DarthGeek Tue, 26 Oct 2010 06:32:30
n - a wand of comic updating

#42 Kiwi13cubed Thu, 28 Oct 2010 12:34:42
DarthGeek:
Use a scroll of identify on that. I think it's out of charges.

#43 Sorceror Sun, 31 Oct 2010 01:03:02
OK, symmetry is quite badly stuffed up now.

#44 Muad Wed, 22 Dec 2010 01:51:48
I thought this is a great strip. The rhythm, or pacing, whatchacallit, works perfectly.

Nice ratings.

Can't bring myself to mess up 23456.

Reminds me of a potion... of fruit juice. That's not a potion, DevTeam!
