This page lists recent updates to this web site.  For the latest info on
Roguelike games, see Darren Hebden's Roguelike News.
  • 2001-05-25  Added zips for SLASH'EM to Download page.

  • 2001-05-24  Hello!  I'm getting ready to travel and move again and decided to finally update all the links and downloads.  I also tweaked a few things on the review and preview pages, basically just wiping off the layers of dust...  Hopefully after I settle down I'll get a dedicated web-page computer and will be able to get back into the habit of weekly updates.  By the way, I'm still playing Heroes 3 almost daily!!!

  • 29-JUN-1999 : "Topic of the Day" indeed! :)  It's been a while, folks.  The main culprits were Heroes of Might and Magic III, exams, Might and Magic VII, and updates on my other web sites.  I've gotten lots of email from people recently, reminding me that people actually look at these pages.  So, I've finally gotten around to making some updates.   First of all, I revised my reviews for ADOM and Unreal World, changing the format a bit and adding new information.   I updated the Legend of Saladir preview as well.  I also updated the Download and Links page; adding and correcting links and information.  Next up on my agenda are reviews and links for Crawl, Crossfire [there's a Win32 client now], and Castle of the Winds.
  • 04-APR-1999 : Happy Easter!  The Roguelike News page moved, so I updated all the links to it.   Fixed the Balrog link.  I also updated the topic for the week: 009: A la Carte Gaming.
  • 26-MAR-1999 : Added/updated topic for this week: 008: Role Playing. Added table of contents and Evets review to Review page.   Updated the Download page to include link to Evets review.
  • 23-MAR-1999 : Added a direct download for Evets, which people have been hunting recently.   Added a link to Balrog (Roguelike Geneaology).  Ragnarok wasn't one of the early graphical Roguelikes; thanks for the info, Erik!  Updated topic 004 ASCII Interface to include some "amusing facts" from Erik regarding earlier graphical Roguelikes.
  • 08-MAR-1999 : Added/updated topic for this week: 007: Dungeon Crawling. This is probably the last update I'll be able to make for a couple weeks.  We're almost done with the Roguelike Characteristics!  Only one more of the original batch left (008: Role Playing).   After that, I will finally be able to move on to the interesting stuff like wish lists and hints and interviews.
  • 05-MAR-1999 : Added/updated topic for this week: 006: Single Player.  Downloaded the new SLAM and liked it! I'll update the review and direct download soon.  I got Heroes of Might and Magic III this week, will be in Colorado next Friday and the Friday afterwards, and have a midterm exam the following week, so the Topics of the Week might slip (temporarily) to Topics of the Month!  :)
  • 28-FEB-1999 : Ski trip!  No updates this week.
  • 21-FEB-1999 : Added a preview for Dimensions, and added a link to it on the download page.  I also added some general comments to the Dungeon and Legend of Saladir previews.
  • 20-FEB-1999 : Added review of Unreal World 2.20, updated its entry on the download page.  Added preview and download link for Legend of Saladir.
  • 19-FEB-1999 : Added/updated topic for this week: 005: Turn-based.  Spent a lot of time looking for the old Roguelike called Evets (for which several people are searching) but no luck.  Meanwhile, I am putting together some surveys: one specifically about Angband, and a general one about the web site.  If you have any questions you would like to see asked, email me. Thanks!
  • 15-FEB-1999 : Made huge updates to TAIL; now it's version 1.1 and works in DOS and UNIX.  I added it to the Download page.  There's a readme file there that give a brief intro on what TAIL does and what's in the ZIP.
  • 14-FEB-1999 : Spent the whole day creating TAIL (Trav's Angband Index Linker) version 1.0
  • 13-FEB-1999 : Made minor updates to the Intro page.   Switched from the Topic of the Day to the Topic of the Week (big sigh of relief!).   Made extensive updates & additions to yesterday's topic (ASCII Interface).  Updated  table on the Download page.   Fleshed out the Dungeon preview (added a screen grab).
  • 12-FEB-1999 : Added topic 004 ASCII Interface, made minor cosmetic updates to 002 Pace of Development.   Man, these topics of the day are killing me!!!  I've been spending 7 hours per topic.  Either I'm gonna have to write shorter topics (and do less research), or write less frequently.  Maybe I will relax it to once a week; we'll see how tomorrow goes.  So far I haven't received any feedback about the recent site updates.  If that isn't a motivation killer, I don't know what is!
  • 10-FEB-1999 : Renamed the Review page Games, although I didn't change the filename because some other web sites have links to that page and I don't want to mess things up.  Added topics 002-00X, giving them dates for the rest of this week.  Posting in advance spoils the fun a little, but I wanted to make sure I included all the information I removed from the Intro and Wish List pages.  Split the Downloads and Links page into separate pages: Links and Download.
  • 09-FEB-1999 : Added the first topic: 001 Freeware, which contains a table which isn't quite complete; I'll update it as I get new information.  Overhauled the Intro page (moved characteristics to Topics section) and added the Previews page, which is accessible from the Review page.
  • 08-FEB-1999 : Changed the name from Roguelike Genre to the more goal-oriented Roguelike Review.   Redesigned the site layout so that the focus is now clearly on reviewing the different features of Roguelike games (handled by the new Topics section), and reviewing the different Roguelike games and variants.  I've merged the NetHack Shoplifting Primer and my Wish List into the Topics section.  The whole site now has a better focus (in my opinion).  Feedback is welcome; please use the Discussion list so that others can respond to your comments as well.
  • 14-MAY-1998 : Started the long-due overhaul of my Roguelike pages, renaming them "Roguelike Genre."
