Worthwhile.

#2 xCheckPoint Mon, 5 Jul 2010 13:09:36
I'd suggest 'The soldier cuts off a ring from your finger (including the finger). You turn into a floating eye' ...

Pet purple worm? Or what's the purple W? A Nazgul?

#4 Anonymous Mon, 5 Jul 2010 20:29:28
Of course it's a Nazgul. That's the only purple W. (Worms are lowercase w)

#5 Quint Tue, 6 Jul 2010 05:41:04
Oh right.

(I've never seen a Nazgul in-game.)

#6 DarthCliche Tue, 6 Jul 2010 14:44:58
Neither have I, outside of wizard mode.

#7 acheron Tue, 6 Jul 2010 21:17:30
I've tried to kill all 9 Nazgul during an ascension before, don't think I ever made it though. (if you don't know, no more Nazgul will generate after the 9th.)

I have records of all my ascensions; looks like the most Nazgul I got were 7. I even saved all their rings.

#8 Sorceror Tue, 6 Jul 2010 22:29:15
I have records of all my ascensions too. Let's just say they take up no space at all!

#9 acheron Tue, 6 Jul 2010 23:17:17
heh! it took me a long time before my first; after the first one they started rolling in though. Eventually I ascended one of each character type except rogue (so 12), with a lot of various conducts. My last ascension was in late 2006 though, I haven't played much over the past several years.

The deepest I've ever gotten was dungeon level 10 (CURSE YOU, OCHRE JELLY!). That was yesterday, as a samurai. Of course, I've only been playing for about a year.

I would like to see Medusa someday.

But I've come to the conclusion that the strategies that help a tenderfoot survive will get a more experienced character killed. I need to learn when to make the switch to evasion mode. It's probably somewhere right about when I usually get killed.

DarthCliche, I dunno. I ascended after three months, but I was massively spoiled.

#13 Slandor Thu, 8 Jul 2010 04:31:57
I would like to see Medusa someday.

That's not actually a good idea. Wear a towel.

#14 acheron Thu, 8 Jul 2010 12:38:59
Indeed. And make sure she's really dead before taking it off. I know that one from personal experience. :P

#15 DarthCliche Thu, 8 Jul 2010 14:37:07
CuleX: I've been spoiled too; I read half the wiki before I even started. (Also, I took a long break from approximately October 2009 to March 2010.)

#16 DarthCliche Thu, 8 Jul 2010 15:36:32
xCheckPoint: This is a possible sequence of in-game events; your suggestion is not.

#17 anther Fri, 9 Jul 2010 07:28:15
@Slandor: Perhaps I would turn myself into a gargoyle, and behold her in all her ugly glory. Would be a rare experience, to fight Medusa while fully sighted. Although one would have to be careful of the polymorph timeout. Unchanging would be useful there too.

#18 Anonymous Fri, 9 Jul 2010 12:57:50
@anther: I think the first time I fought Medusa I polymorphed into a yellow dragon to fight her because I hadn't thought of blinding myself or anything like that... I also seem to recall that I didn't do very well against her either...

10 bucks to the first person to kill medusa as a cockatrice.

#20 Anonymous Sun, 11 Jul 2010 00:02:35
I just did. I was in wizard mode.

#21 Sorceror Sun, 11 Jul 2010 05:09:43
Wizard mode is, by definition, cheating.

#22 Anonymous Sun, 11 Jul 2010 06:10:00
I just did. I was in explore mode.

#23 Anonymous Sun, 11 Jul 2010 10:48:38

I just did. I cheated.

#25 DarthCliche Sun, 11 Jul 2010 19:49:54
I just did. I was in a variant I created.

#26 Quint Mon, 12 Jul 2010 01:34:19
Cheating is, by definition, cheating.

#27 Kiwi13cubed Mon, 12 Jul 2010 14:16:41
Are said bucks hostile, peaceful, or tame? If hostile, I have no intention of trying it...

#28 DarthCliche Mon, 12 Jul 2010 15:30:40
I just did. I was not cheating in any way, shape, or form.

#29 xCheckPoint Mon, 12 Jul 2010 16:31:10
Claiming the unexaminable is, by definition, cheating.

#30 DarthCliche Mon, 19 Jul 2010 20:13:29
I just did. I am lying.

On a side note, this is the fourth most commented strip!

#31 DarthCliche Mon, 19 Jul 2010 23:52:06
Huh. I thought that side note would quickly cause a bunch more comments.

#32 Kiwi13cubed Wed, 21 Jul 2010 13:37:16
Lying is, by definition, being dishonest.

#33 DarthCliche Mon, 26 Jul 2010 16:35:51
I just did.

#34 DarthCliche Fri, 6 Aug 2010 00:20:02
I just did. I was attempting to beat July 22, 2010 as the most commented strip.

#35 Anonymous Sun, 21 Aug 2011 08:04:26
C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!

#36 ThePathfinder Tue, 11 Nov 2014 05:41:56
In fact the hobbit is the player.Because it is Angband.

#37 Anonymous Mon, 5 Jun 2017 19:29:24
Sauron is not an orc! The Silmarillion: "Of old there was Sauron the Maia, whom the Sindar in Beleriand named Gorthaur."
