It isn't quite clear that the first and second characters aren't the same, and the square directly in front of the door is not considered to be part of the shop in that items dropped there will not be considered part of inventory. Also, joke is okay but not excellent. Therefore: fair.

Wait, I get the joke now. The next Dudley comes in, grabs the time machine, and saves the Dudley who had the time machine before, so he did not die with it, so the bones with it did not exist, so the time machine could not have gone to the store... _Good_. In fact, excellent, because I like paradox jokes done fairly well.
