The setup looks pretty promising, there might be hiding a really good joke. If I only understood what's going on. Some hints please, Bucky, there's an E in the pipeline...

The dungeon room as a face with the trappers serving as its mouth?
I might be wrong about this, but I think that the eyes represent a higher state of being ascended to by those who give up monetary gain, while the trappers are the onlookers who wish they could understand what it is that grants the eyes their power.
I disagree, Xandersol. The trappers are Dudley and Dogley. They have been lured into the trap of easy money and/or power, and now they are become the monsters they once fought. The eyes are silent and do nothing but watch. They represent the gods, watching Dudley and judging him. Notice also that no polymorph trap is revealed on the map, nor is there any monster other than Dudley who could use a wand or potion of polymorph. Most likely Dudley is standing on the trap, but the obvious suggestion is that he did this to himself - metaphorically speaking.

E for deep and thought-provoking.
