Does that actually kill? If maxhp overflows via failed polyself, it normally gets set to a small value, as does current HP. If it overflows via potion of full healing (or similar), your current HP becomes 0 and your max HP becomes negative, but you don't immediately die; also, monsters don't attack you. (This is the only known way to die to a lichen, via overflowing max HP via potion, then using conflict with a tame lichen, which causes the game to notice your HP is zeroed.)
