E for orginality, cleverness, etc.

-1 for any legitimising Facebook and/or MySpace and/or Twitter as culturally significant.

You can't deny that those three have had an impact on society, though.

#5 Sorceror Sun, 28 Mar 2010 23:01:54
I can deny whatever I want!

Oh gawd I hate these little online games.

#10 Sorceror Mon, 29 Mar 2010 23:52:44
Quint: so you play a massively detailed offline one instead?

#11 neovigo Tue, 30 Mar 2010 13:00:14
I hate all massive multiplayer games, social websites. I loathe of Facebook, WoW, Twitter etc.

I've always preferred single player games, notably point & click adventures and good old DOS based games. When they make a Massive Multiplayer Online Point & Click Adventure Game, I'll know that the time has come to me to move to Alaska or Klondike, live in a log cabin deep in the woods, eat moose meat etc ;)

Sorceror: Well, actually, I play Nethack online. But it's far from "little".

However, it is true that most games I play are single-player.

#13 Sorceror Tue, 30 Mar 2010 21:19:30
I didn't describe Nethack as "little", and it's not multiplayer so playing it via telnet doesn't really count :)

#14 Slandor Tue, 30 Mar 2010 23:40:21
It is multiplayer -- it's just that all the other players are dead.

#15 STL Wed, 31 Mar 2010 02:23:45
True. You can actually encounter other players in the game, thus, it is multiplayer.

#16 Sorceror Wed, 31 Mar 2010 04:08:49
NPCs don't count.

#17 STL Wed, 31 Mar 2010 06:42:36
I was talking about bones. Sure, the players are not alive when you encoutner them, but you encounter them nevertheless.

E for Slandors comment

#19 Sorceror Wed, 31 Mar 2010 21:52:42
Bones files include NPCs.

Now, if there was some system for people to be notified that they're in someone elses's game as a bones file, then allow them to controll their ghost/zombie, then THAT would be multiplayer :) As it stands, Nethack is closer to "multiuser" than multiplayer.

#20 Anonymous Thu, 1 Apr 2010 03:15:47
For it to be multiplayer, it would have to be like MAngband. You think a real-time Nethack would work?
