Dudley should have noticed that those sticks were wands, not tools (or weapons). But in his defence, the RNG didn't ask him to confirm when he applied them.
they are supposed to be wands of fire that are made of wood. So when caveman Dudley rubs them together and creates a spark the fire magic in the wands causes them to explode.
It was supposed to be an attempt to show that the DevTeam hasn't really thought of everything. I was gonna do a comic about an exploding glass wand of fire but I picked this instead. Glass wands of fire break when thrown but don't explode. However if you break it in half while holding onto it it does. Which doesn't make sense obviously.
And damn you guys really hated this comic..=( Oh well.
Making a shattered glass wand explode would be interesting but probably a bad idea. I have accidentally kicked glass wands before, and the loss of the wand is bad enough; I don't need an explosion of lightning on top of it.
Although wands of light as glass wands would be useful, or rather, chucking them at monsters would. It would at least obsolete the requests to add flash-bang grenades to SLASH'EM.
Yes it would be more dangerous, but it'd just add to the list of what NOT to do in NetHack. Experienced players need more of a challenge in my opinion, lol.
I really think the gravestone should have read "Dudley killed by an exploding wand of fire" or something like that. Not only would it have made the comic much easier to understand, it also would have been a lot funnier that the inane metahumor in the current version. However, ignoring the last panel, the comic is funny, so I gave it an F.

Really? Well, i guess that when you smash it against a wall it breaks into several pieces, while breaking it in half is.. 2 pieces.
