Sounds like one needs to know two separate memes to get this joke, and they're memes maybe only 30% will remember, and they may not even be an intersecting 30% for each, with a payoff that isn't Laugh Out Loud even when you get it, so an approximate 10% of voters choosing anything above mediocre might be expected just on statistical grounds. :)
