Kids, don't try it at home without a scroll of taming.

Dudley, you should have known you wouldn't like him when he's angry.

#4 TJR Fri, 19 Jun 2009 16:55:50
Poor, and I don't get it. What is the benefit of abusing pets other than ridden steeds and puddings you want to polymorph both parts of? Also, hostile monsters do not stay leashed. What does Bruce/hulk/fate reference to?

@TJR: Nice. The first comment i got from outer space. As explanation for you: this is not the real game nethack, it's a comic strip (the game is less static). Maybe that's why not everything fits _exactly_ the in-game messages and behavior.
The google (before you ask - that's a search engine) on our planet delivers 3.5 billion hits for 'bruce+hulk', the first 50k explain the reference.

@xCheckPoint: A good comic should not require me to watch (US ?) television or consult Google.

#7 neovigo Fri, 19 Jun 2009 19:46:58
@TJR: It is not obligatory for everyone to understand every strip's cultural context. It is just that, if the franchise a strip relates to is relatively well-known, the use of such context is justified for me. And it doesn't hurt to increase your knowledge by consulting Google sometimes.

xCheckPoint's reply was needlessly dismissive - writing Dudley comics is not for the thin of skin. OTOH I'm not quite as absolute as TJR and mainly am with neovigo. I'm willing to give a comic the benefit of the doubt, if a simple Google search turns up the answer for me and the answer is something that I'm glad I learnt. A reference to some other gaming realm doesn't usually pass this test for me; a humorous internet meme or major movie that I've never seen probably will. YMMV, and I think we all recognize anyone is entitled to rate a comic Poor (or Excellent) for any subjective reason they wish, including Symmetry.

As for the comic itself, it basically contains 2 jokes (Physicist maps to Q, the Incredible Hulk maps to a green U) and takes 10 panels to bring it off, with not enough payoff for a G rating from me at least.

I just have to wonder why a quantum mechanic would have an amulet of unchanging.

#10 Sorceror Fri, 28 Aug 2009 12:13:12
Anonymous #9: To keep him from changing into the Incredible Hulk, of course!

Note that Hulk has had many incarnations: comic book, TV series, animated series, computer games, crappy and not-so-crappy live-action movies ... as well as being referenced in other things (e.g.Harvey Birdman, even the Young Ones!). If you've missed it all, you really are missing out!

The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets! HULK WILL SMASH! Puny Explorer wont bother Hulk any more.

I gave it E cause I think it's funny, I love Marvel comics, especially Mr. Banner's alter ego, and the bar matches Hulk's green skin.
