I get the reference, but it's pretty obscure. And the comic isn't that funny even when you do get it. shrug

If someone who doesn't get it wants to, google "So there's a man crawling through the desert". Hope you have a lot of time on your hands.

And for those with less time search for "The Lever of Doom" on that page (about smack right in the middle) before skipping to the last paragraphs.
For the effort of making such a long strip.......

I recently heard (or rather, read) this when someone mentioned it on the TV Tropes Fora.

Oh goodness. I saw it coming when the snake and lever appeared.

G for sufficient quality and effort, at making the joke sufficiently long yet still subverting it at the end. However, it would have been E had it been played perfectly through the whole of the original joke.

#4 heranbago Wed, 24 Jun 2009 06:37:10
Didn't get it or feel like researching, but even voted good for the little jokes throughout. Pudding farmer etc.

Even after reading through the entire source material, I still don't get the tombstone. What's a shaggy dog got to do with anything?

A well executed shaggy dog story, less than once a year, earns an 'E'. Any more often than that, will be a 'P'. Even a one-panel, "well, not that shaggy", followup. And if this is the start of a series, then God help us. :)

@slowpoke: no chance of a series if I have anything to say about it, someone else will have to pick up the torch. I was thinking of trying to go for the whole story when I started, but quickly used up my endurance.

I agree with heranbago.

P for some sort of reference - I know shaggy dog stories, but who is this Nate?

I should've read this strip when it was posted, but better late than never.
