I don't know much about Amaterasu Omikami but I took a quick look in Wikipedia and didn't see any indication she is much of a practical joker. I like the comic, but wonder if Loki would have been a better choice of deity.

Amaterasu Omikami was on a bit of an internet otaku running gag binge. And I totally suspected the parentheses, and saw this one coming when he hit the first trap.

most people put smileys sideways :), that type ^_^ is the anime and/or Japanese way.

In general, anything that uses carets/chevrons to represent a happy face ( ^^ ) is considered an anime smiley. Because in anime they make people's eyes look like that when they're happy, or something. On a completely unrelated note.
