Guys, true stories aren't funny on their own...

Looked like the joke was going to be a false newt-joke setup, but not quite.

It's funny because the newt was about to kill him on the next turn anyway.

Seriously though, P. He can't even spell RNG.

RNG wasn't pissed, he just wanted to advise Dudley of the #untrap command...

How many untrap attempts is usually a safe bet?

I usually do three, four, or five, depending on how paranoid I'm feeling.

Depends on the level you are and resistances you got. Early game I am paranoid, too. Deep down I don't care...

I usually do ten untrap attempts; in my experience it seems like it always takes more than six to find the trap, at least at the start. Course, that could be because my characters always seem to start with low wisdom...

Anon, what roles do you play?

Actually, according to Wikihack, your chance of finding a trap depends only on your level (and whether you're confused) -- it starts around 1/3. Then your Dex and level affect whether you can disarm it (if you aren't a rogue, you probably can't), and your luck affects whether it does anything to you and how bad it is.

There are those who say that bad effects from container traps are rare enough that you should just go ahead and bash open every chest you see. If you do, you should probably drop your potions, scrolls, rings, and wands before you do (since they can all get munched by traps). I usually don't #untrap, but that's more because I forget you can.
