Red vs. green felt a bit weird for chess, but I see how it works with the P/b/n looking natural then, and only the k attracting attention. (Well, a green slime would cause me a bit of alarm, if I didn't just misread it as an F, but still) I really like the "killed by a checkmate" tombstone.

Why a numph? Because from Dudleys point of view this looks more horselike?

I'd rather say that they're named after chess figures - "P"awn, "Q"ueen, "b"ishop, "k"ing and k"n"ight (n, because k is already used) ;)

Cute.

Can't help but point out that in Forsyth-Edwards notation, White takes upper case and black lower case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forsyth%E2%80%93Edwards_Notation

The pawn turns into a queen. You die... Perfect.

Great comic, though I may have laughed harder at "The pawn turns into a queen. You fall down..."

(Because, y'know, the King does not die in chess, but rather lies down to surrender. Killing a king would have made the wrong people far too angry a few hundred years back.)

In the games I play, the loser signifies resignation by knocking the board across the room while accusing the winner of cheating. Well, since I never win, maybe I shouldn't speak quite so generally.

@NorthBus: King always dies in chess unless it's stalemate. We just don't see that part because it's edited out to keep it G instead of PG.

hey, thats not a check mate its now Dudley's turn so he can move out of the way.

It's a mate. Green bishop blocks the square down, green knight blocks the diagonal.
